Sheesham, Teak or Mango: Choosing the Right Wood for Indian Homes
27 June 2026 • 6 min read

The wood you choose affects price, weight, colour and how the piece ages. There is no single best option — the right choice depends on the room, the climate and how much you want to spend.
Sheesham (Indian rosewood)
Dense, strong and rich in colour, with a pronounced grain that darkens over time. It is our most requested wood for beds, dining tables and sofa frames because it handles daily load well and takes a natural finish beautifully.
Teak
The most stable option in humid and coastal cities. Natural oils make it resistant to moisture and insects, which is why it remains the preferred wood in Mumbai, Chennai and Kochi. It is also the most expensive.
Mango wood
Lighter and more affordable, with an even grain that accepts stains and paint finishes well. Good for wardrobes, storage units and study furniture where extreme load is not a factor.
Whichever wood you pick, seasoning matters more than species. Unseasoned wood will warp regardless of how premium the name sounds.
